The day trip, in short

An easy day trip from Mexico City to a Teotihuacan balloon flight

Hot Air Balloon Teotihuacan runs sunrise flights over the pyramids of Teotihuacan, about 50 km northeast of Mexico City, and turns them into a planned-for-you day trip. Two packages fold the round-trip ride from CDMX into the price: the ALL INCLUSIVE shared transfer is $3,700 MXN (about US$202) per person, and the same flight with a private vehicle is $3,400 MXN (about US$186) per person. We collect you at 4:30 AM so you reach the launch field around 5:30 AM, while it is still dark; the drive runs about one hour each way, lift-off is at 6:00–6:30 AM, the flight itself lasts roughly 45 to 60 minutes and the landing toast is around 7:15 AM. That is about 3 to 4 hours from pickup to the toast; counting breakfast and a walk through the archaeological zone you are back in Mexico City around 1:00 PM, about 8 hours 30 minutes door to door. Prefer to get there on your own? The flight by itself starts from $2,100 MXN (about US$115). Every flight is run by AFAC-certified commercial pilots who speak English, includes traveler insurance, and is rescheduled free of charge if the weather will not allow a safe lift-off.

Where the outside numbers come from. Admission prices and the 08:00–17:00 opening hours of the zone, last admission 16:30, are published by INAH in its official listing for the Teotihuacan archaeological zone. The $72 and $116 tolls are the rates reported on the day of the nationwide increase of 13 April 2026; other tolls circulating online carry no date. Our own figures come from the 2026 price table, and the bus, Metro, ride-hailing and own-car comparison lives in getting to Teotihuacan from Mexico City.

Why the bundle is cheaper than the parts

Bought separately, the flight ($2,100 MXN), the round-trip transfer ($1,500 MXN) and the La Gruta breakfast ($550 MXN) come to $4,150 MXN per person (about US$227). The ALL INCLUSIVE day trip is $3,700 MXN (about US$202) and the private-vehicle version is $3,400 MXN (about US$186), both with breakfast included. That is the whole reason the two packages exist, and it is a sum you can check line by line against the table above.

Day-trip questions

Is the ride from Mexico City part of the price?

Yes — that's the whole point of a day trip. Both the ALL INCLUSIVE Shared package ($3,700 MXN, about US$202) and the Shared + Private Transportation package ($3,400 MXN, about US$186) fold the round trip from Mexico City to Teotihuacan into the price. If you'd rather travel under your own steam, the flight-only Teotihuacan Hot Air Balloon Ride starts from $2,100 MXN (about US$115) and you simply meet us at the launch point.

How early is the hotel pickup?

Pickup is at 4:30 AM from your Mexico City hotel area, so you reach the launch field around 5:30 AM for a 6:00-6:30 AM lift-off. Balloons can only launch at first light, when the winds are calm and the light over the pyramids is at its best, so the dawn start is part of the experience. Your exact pickup point is confirmed by WhatsApp the day before.

Shared versus private transport — which should I pick?

It comes down to how you like to travel. The ALL INCLUSIVE Shared package ($3,700 MXN, about US$202) rides with a few other guests from Mexico City and is the best value. The Shared + Private Transportation package ($3,400 MXN, about US$186) keeps the very same flight but hands you a private vehicle from CDMX — worth it for couples, families or anyone who wants a more flexible, door-to-door pickup.

How far is Teotihuacan from Mexico City?

It's a comfortable hop — roughly 50 km northeast of Mexico City, around one hour on the road. Because we set off so early, the highway is clear and you arrive with time to spare to get ready for the sunrise flight.

What if the weather grounds the flight?

If conditions aren't right to fly safely, we move your flight to another day at no extra cost — nobody goes up unless it's safe. Safety always comes before the schedule, and every flight is run by certified pilots.

Is ballooning over Teotihuacan safe?

Yes, and it's a fair question to ask. Every flight is flown by commercial pilots certified by Mexico's AFAC (Agencia Federal de Aviación Civil), and traveler insurance is built into every package. Lift-off only happens at dawn, when the winds are calmest, and if conditions don't allow a safe flight we reschedule you free of charge rather than take any chances.

Where do the balloons lift off?

Our meeting point is in San Francisco Mazapa, San Martin de las Piramides, State of Mexico, right beside the archaeological zone and about 50 km northeast of Mexico City. Choose a transport package and we collect you in CDMX and drive you straight there. Book the flight only and we send you the exact meeting point with its Google Maps link when we confirm.

How do I reserve the day trip from Mexico City?

Two simple ways: reserve online through our booking system, or message us on WhatsApp at +52 55 3473 0006 and we'll do it together in English. Once your pickup point, date and package are confirmed, everything else is on us.

How long does the whole day trip take?

Two figures, and both are true. It is about 3 to 4 hours from the 4:30 AM pickup to the landing toast, of which 45 to 60 minutes are in the air. It is about 8 hours 30 minutes door to door if you stay for breakfast and a walk through the archaeological zone, which puts you back in Mexico City around 1:00 PM.

How much does the transfer from Mexico City cost on its own?

Added to a flight-only package, the round-trip transfer from Mexico City is $1,500 MXN per person (about US$82). Bundled into a day trip it works out cheaper: the flight alone is $2,100 MXN (about US$115), so flight, transfer and the $550 MXN La Gruta breakfast bought separately come to $4,150 MXN (about US$227), while the ALL INCLUSIVE day trip is $3,700 MXN (about US$202) and the same flight with a private vehicle is $3,400 MXN (about US$186), breakfast at La Gruta included in the All Inclusive. Dollar figures are approximate, converted at 18.3 MXN/USD in August 2026; the charge is in MXN.

Is entry to the pyramids included in the day trip?

No. Admission to the Teotihuacan archaeological zone is a separate INAH ticket: $105 MXN for Mexican nationals and foreign residents with ID, and $210 MXN general admission in 2026. The zone opens at 08:00 with last admission at 16:30, so the balloon has landed long before the gates open and you can walk in afterwards if you want to.

What you can check before you pay

Flying since 2017

We lifted our first travelers over the valley in 2017 and have launched from the same field beside the archaeological zone ever since.

AFAC-certified pilots

Every balloon is flown by a commercial pilot licensed by AFAC, Mexico's Federal Civil Aviation Agency. Ask to see the licence at the launch field.

Traveler insurance included

Passenger insurance is built into the fare of every flight and into all 7 packages — not an upsell, not a box you tick at checkout.

Free weather reschedule

If conditions do not allow a safe launch we do not take off, and we move your date at no cost. We would rather lose the morning than force it.

Paid in full, online

Card (+5%) or PayPal (no surcharge) through this site, with written confirmation carrying your date, your meeting point and your time. Nothing to settle at the field.

The rules, before you book

Minimum age is 5 and pregnant travelers cannot fly. Two rules with no exceptions — better you read them here than hear them at the basket.

The 6 below were pasted out of that panel word for word, the customer's own spelling included. All 6 carry their own score because the owner confirmed each one against his panel; not a single one is assumed. They were written between August 4 and 7, 2026. They name their pilots: Alejandro S. and Antonio.

Worth getting up at 4am for! We had Alejandro as our pilot and Caolum for our balloon. The take off, flight, and landing were smooth with a great crew. The views unmatched. Alejandro was willing to communicate in English or Spanish as preferred and offered insight throughout the experience.
