Teotihuacán day trip from Mexico City: the hour-by-hour plan, with and without the balloon

With the balloon your day runs from about 4:45 a.m. to early afternoon. Without it, you can start at a civilised hour and spend the whole morning inside the archaeological zone. The balloon costs you roughly four hours on the ground and buys you the only sunrise view of the Avenue of the Dead. Both timetables are below so you can pick with the clock in front of you.

Who should skip the balloon

The uncomfortable version, because it is the one that saves you money if it applies to you.

Skip it if you will not leave your hotel at 4:45 a.m. That is the single biggest reason people regret booking. The flight cannot move later: balloons fly at dawn because that is when the air is stable, and there are no afternoon flights.

Skip it if you only have one free morning and the pyramids are the point. Four hours inside the zone beats two, and the zone is what you came for.

Book it if the sunrise is the point. The Avenue of the Dead from above at first light is the one thing you genuinely cannot get any other way — not from the Pyramid of the Sun, not from a drone, which are not allowed over the zone.

If you want the flight but not the 4:45 a.m. pickup, there is a middle route: get yourself to the launch field and see what each tier costs without transport.
