Teotihuacán sits about 50 km (31 miles) northeast of Mexico City, 60 to 75 minutes by road. Five routes get you there. Only two of them put you at the launch field before the balloons lift off at 6:15 a.m. — and for visiting the pyramids on their own, the cheapest route wins outright.

If your plan is the archaeological zone and not the balloon, we are the wrong purchase. Here is the arithmetic instead of the sales pitch.
The bus from Terminal Norte costs a fraction of any transfer and drops you at the zone. For a normal daytime visit it is the best value in this table and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
It stops being an option for one reason only: the first departures run far too late for a dawn launch. A balloon takes off at first light because that is when the air is stable. There is no afternoon flight to catch up with.
So the split is simple. Pyramids only, on a budget: take the bus. Balloon at sunrise: you need a vehicle that leaves the city before 5 a.m., and that is either ours, a driver you booked the night before, or your own car.
The bus is the cheapest way in. It also has one trap that costs travellers half a day.

The archaeological zone and the balloon launch field are not the same place. Typing the pyramids into the app on flight morning sends you to a closed gate.

The return is the weak spot. Ride-hailing coverage at the zone is thin compared with the city, and it thins further the earlier you finish. Agree the return with your driver before you get out, or plan on the bus.
