The Teotihuacan Hot Air Balloon Ride starts at $2,100 MXN per person (down from $2,790) and is our flight-only experience. Because it leaves out add-ons like transport or a cave breakfast, it sits at the bottom of our range — across all seven experiences, prices run from $2,100 to $3,750 MXN. It's the simplest, most direct way to get up over the pyramids.
Very. Each balloon is flown by a commercial pilot certified by Mexico's AFAC (Agencia Federal de Aviación Civil), and traveler insurance is included on every flight. Safety always comes first: we simply don't take off in conditions that aren't right, and if the weather won't allow a safe flight we move your date at no cost.
Not in the base ride — leaving transport out is exactly what keeps it at $2,100 MXN. If you'd rather not drive, you can add round-trip transport from Mexico City at checkout for about $1,500 per person, or skip the planning entirely with our All Inclusive package ($3,300 MXN). Either way, the launch point is in Teotihuacan, Estado de México, about an hour from the city.
Plan on about 3 to 4 hours from the moment you arrive — that covers the pre-flight prep, watching the inflation, the flight itself and the toast on landing. Of that, you'll be airborne for roughly 45 to 60 minutes at sunrise. Balloons lift off around 6:00 AM year-round, so please arrive 30 minutes early. You'll be done in plenty of time to head back to the city.
For most travelers, it's the highlight of the trip. Floating above the Pyramid of the Sun and the Avenue of the Dead as the sun comes up is the single most photographed hour in Teotihuacan, and it's hard to overstate the feeling. Hot Air Balloon Teotihuacán carries a 4.9-star rating from more than 1,200 reviews, and at $2,100 MXN this is the simplest, most accessible way to tick a balloon ride off the bucket list.
Lift-off is at sunrise from a launch field right beside the archaeological zone of Teotihuacan, in the State of Mexico — roughly an hour's drive from Mexico City. From there you drift over the Avenue of the Dead, the Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon while first light pours across the valley below.
Most healthy adults, including older travelers, can fly with no issue at all. Kids are welcome from age 5, as long as they're tall enough to stand and see over the edge of the basket and are with an adult. Two rules are absolute and we cannot make exceptions: the minimum age is 5 years, and pregnant travelers cannot fly. If you have any other health concern, just message us before you book and we'll let you know.
Your $2,100 covers the sunrise balloon flight over the archaeological zone of Teotihuacan, an AFAC-certified pilot at the controls, traveler insurance, a celebratory toast once you land and a flight certificate to take home. Your phone or camera is welcome in the basket. And if the weather won't allow a safe flight, we reschedule you at no cost.
Want the flight plus a little extra? These build on the very same dawn ride — adding a cave breakfast or round-trip transport so you can leave the logistics to us. Compare them all on the packages page.
