The gift, in brief

The whole idea in five answers

What is it?

A sunrise hot air balloon flight over the Teotihuacan pyramids, packaged as a birthday gift — birthday decoration in the launch field, a diploma in the celebrant's name, a commemorative photo and a sparkling toast the moment the basket touches down.

Who is it for?

Anyone planning a birthday surprise — for a partner, a parent, a friend or the whole crew — who wants a present that floats above an ancient World Heritage city instead of sitting in a box.

How much?

$2,300 MXN (about US$126) per person, down from $2,700 (about US$148). That covers the flight, English-speaking AFAC pilots, passenger insurance, the birthday decoration, the name diploma, the commemorative photo and the sparkling toast. It does not cover transport from Mexico City (+$1,500 MXN, about US$82, per person) or INAH admission to the archaeological zone. Paying by card adds a 5% surcharge ($2,415 MXN, about US$132); PayPal and bank transfer do not. All seven tiers, $2,100 to $3,750 MXN (about US$115 to US$205), sit side by side in the 2026 price list.

How does it work?

1) Reserve a sunrise date online and tell us the headcount. 2) Travel out from Mexico City and reach the launch field before dawn. 3) Lift off, land, hand over the diploma and raise the toast. Above 10 km/h (about 6 mph) of surface wind we do not fly, and the pilot in command decides that at the field: a grounded birthday moves to another sunrise free, however many times it takes.

How long?

You spend roughly 45–60 minutes in the air; the full morning, from check-in at the We Fly Teotihuacan reception to the final toast, runs about 3 to 4 hours.

~45-minute sunrise flight over Teotihuacan

The heart of the gift: rising at first light over the Avenue of the Dead and the Pyramid of the Sun, with the other balloons drifting alongside in the gold morning haze.

Birthday decoration

The decoration is set up in the launch field before the basket lifts — it is inside the $2,300 MXN (about US$126) price, not an extra you ask for.

Diploma in their name

A keepsake diploma printed with the birthday guest's name to take home. Tell us who is celebrating when you book.

Commemorative photo

One commemorative photo of the birthday comes with the package. The full professional photo and drone package is a separate add-on.

Sparkling toast

Touch down and clink glasses together to seal the morning. The toast is served on landing, never in the air.

Insurance included

Passenger insurance baked into every flight — never an extra charge.

Personalized banner: on request

A made-to-order birthday sign with the celebrant's name is not one of the six items in the $2,300 MXN (about US$126) price. Ask for it on WhatsApp before you book and we confirm it, and what it costs, in writing.

Who flies the balloon

Around 35 pilots. Eleven the travelers name.

A birthday gift is handed to a stranger with a licence, so here is what we can actually prove. Around 35 pilots collaborate with Hot Air Balloon Teotihuacan — it is not a closed roster of five — and these eleven are the ones travelers name in their own Google reviews: Antonio, Roberto G. (Roberto Garces), Raúl, Marco B., Naien, Naren, Fernando, Fernando F., Héctor, Alejandro S. and María. Twenty-five of the 81 reviews the owner has copied out of the Google panel name their pilot — Antonio ten times, Roberto G. four, Héctor and Alejandro S. twice each — so you can read the name in a stranger's review before you ever meet them. One of those passengers, Joy Pogoy, adds that Antonio has 14 years of experience: she wrote it on 7 August 2026, and we repeat it as her observation rather than as a figure of ours. Whoever is pilot in command holds a commercial licence issued by AFAC, Mexico's Federal Civil Aviation Agency, and carries it at the launch field — ask to read the name and the licence number before the birthday guest climbs in.

Before you gift it

What comes with the gift, in writing

A birthday present should not rest on a stranger's compliment. These are the commitments attached to every seat we sell.

Flying since 2017

We lifted our first travelers over the valley in 2017 and have launched from the same field beside the archaeological zone ever since.

AFAC-certified pilots

Every balloon is flown by a commercial pilot licensed by AFAC, Mexico's Federal Civil Aviation Agency. Ask to see the licence at the launch field.

Traveler insurance included

Passenger insurance is built into the fare of every flight — not an upsell, not a box you tick at checkout.

Free weather reschedule

If conditions do not allow a safe launch we do not take off, and we move your date at no cost. We would rather lose the morning than force it.

Paid in full, online

Card or PayPal through this site, with written confirmation carrying your date, your meeting point and your time. Nothing to settle at the field. Paying by card adds a 5% surcharge, shown before you confirm; PayPal does not.

The rules, before you book

Minimum age is 5 and pregnant travelers cannot fly. Two rules with no exceptions — better you read them here than hear them at the basket.

Google reviews

The 6 below were pasted out of that panel word for word, the customer's own spelling included. All 6 carry their own score because the owner confirmed each one against his panel; not a single one is assumed. 2 of them also carry the day they were written, between August 4 and 7, 2026. For the others the panel only said “a week ago”, and that day is not ours to guess. One names their pilot: Antonio.

What does the Birthday Balloon Flight gift include?

For $2,300 MXN (about US$126) the gift covers six things: a shared themed sunrise flight of 45 to 60 minutes over the Teotihuacan pyramids, the birthday decoration set up in the launch field, a keepsake diploma printed with the birthday guest's name, a commemorative photo, the birthday toast on landing and passenger insurance. English-speaking AFAC-certified pilots fly every basket. Two things are expressly not in that price: round transport from Mexico City (+$1,500 MXN, about US$82, per person) and INAH admission to the archaeological zone, which is a separate ticket you buy at the gate.

How much does it cost to gift the Birthday Balloon Flight?

The gift is $2,300 MXN per person, about US$126 at 18.3 MXN/USD (down from $2,700), so four guests come to $9,200 MXN (about US$503) and ten come to $23,000 MXN (about US$1,257). You are charged in Mexican pesos. Booking is paid in full online; paying by card adds a 5% surcharge that is shown before you confirm, and PayPal does not. Planning it for several people? Send us your headcount on WhatsApp at +52 55 3473 0006 and we'll put together a group quote.

Does it work as a gift for kids and families?

Yes. It's family-friendly and fine for children, couples and groups celebrating a birthday together. When you're gifting it to a larger party we line up several balloons so the whole group rises at the same sunrise.

Can I add a personalized banner or surprise to the gift?

Yes, and it is worth knowing what is already paid for. The birthday decoration, the name diploma, the commemorative photo and the toast are inside the $2,300 MXN (about US$126) price. A personalized birthday banner or sign with the celebrant's name is not one of those six items: it is arranged on request, so message us on WhatsApp at +52 55 3473 0006 before you book and we confirm it and its cost with you. The same goes for a romantic or proposal setup, the professional photo and drone package, and round transport from Mexico City at +$1,500 MXN (about US$82) per person.

Does the gift include admission to the Teotihuacan archaeological zone?

No. INAH admission to the archaeological zone is not included in the $2,300 MXN (about US$126) birthday gift, and it is the one omission people assume the other way round. The balloon lifts off from a field beside the zone, not inside it, so you never need the ticket to fly. If the birthday guest also wants to walk the Avenue of the Dead after landing, they buy the INAH ticket at the gate, on the day, at the price INAH publishes. Only the All-Inclusive from Mexico City package ($3,700 MXN, about US$202) bundles access to the archaeological zone.

Who will fly the balloon on the birthday morning?

Around 35 pilots collaborate with Hot Air Balloon Teotihuacan, so we cannot promise you a name in advance — but we can show you the ones travelers name themselves: Antonio, Roberto G. (Roberto Garces), Raúl, Marco B., Naien, Naren, Fernando, Fernando F., Héctor, Alejandro S. and María. Twenty-five of the 81 Google reviews the owner has copied out of the panel name their pilot — Antonio ten times, Roberto G. four, Héctor and Alejandro S. twice each — so you can read the name in a stranger's review before you ever meet them. Whoever flies that morning holds a commercial licence issued by AFAC, Mexico's Federal Civil Aviation Agency, and carries it at the launch field: ask to read the name and the licence number before the birthday guest climbs into the basket.

What happens to the gift if the weather is bad?

Nothing is lost, and the rule is a figure rather than a shrug: above 10 km/h (about 6 mph) of surface wind we do not fly. That reading is taken on the launch field at first light, before the envelope is inflated, and the final call belongs to the pilot in command that morning — not to the office the night before. If the answer is no, we move the gifted date to another sunrise at no extra cost, as many times as the weather asks for.

How do I buy the Birthday Balloon Flight as a gift?

Tap any Gift button on this page to open the reservation system and pick a sunrise date, or message us on WhatsApp at +52 55 3473 0006 with the date and group size to confirm availability before you reserve.

Is it safe to gift a hot air balloon flight in Teotihuacan?

Yes, and that peace of mind is part of the gift. Every birthday balloon flight in Teotihuacan is flown by commercial pilots certified by Mexico's AFAC civil aviation authority, and passenger insurance is included on every flight. Launches only happen at sunrise and only in calm air: above 10 km/h (about 6 mph) of surface wind we do not fly, measured on the launch field before inflating — how a legal balloon operation is checked before you pay. If the weather doesn't allow a safe takeoff we reschedule for free, as many times as it takes.

Does the gift include transport from Mexico City?

Round transport from Mexico City is an optional add-on at +$1,500 MXN (about US$82) per person, not built into the $2,300 MXN (about US$126) gift price, so you can include it when you book. Pickup in Mexico City runs at 4:30 a.m. and gets you back around 1:00 p.m. If you'd rather the transport be covered from the start, the All-Inclusive from Mexico City package ($3,700 MXN, about US$202) already bundles round trip transport.

How long does the birthday flight last?

The birthday guest spends about 45 to 60 minutes in the air. Because launches are early at sunrise, plan for the whole morning, from check-in at the We Fly Teotihuacan reception to the final toast, to run about 3 to 4 hours.

Is the birthday balloon flight a good gift?

It is a gift that is hard to top. From the basket the birthday guest watches the sun rise over the Pyramid of the Sun, the Pyramid of the Moon and the Avenue of the Dead, then takes home a name diploma and shares a sparkling toast. Guests routinely call it a once-in-a-lifetime present and the best birthday they've had.

Where does the balloon take off, and how far is it from Mexico City?

Balloons launch at sunrise from a field beside the Teotihuacan archaeological zone in the State of Mexico, about an hour's drive from Mexico City, which makes it an easy day trip. You reach the field before dawn and watch the balloons inflate before liftoff.

Can I gift the flight to children, pregnant women or older adults?

The flight is family-friendly and works for children aged 5 and over, couples and groups, including older adults who can stand for the length of the flight. When you gift it to a larger party we line up several balloons so everyone rises at the same sunrise. Before you buy the gift, check two absolute rules: the minimum age is 5 years, and a pregnant guest cannot fly. For any other health condition, message us on WhatsApp at +52 55 3473 0006 before you book so we can advise.

What are your opening hours, and what time does the balloon actually fly?

Two different clocks, and it is worth keeping them apart. Assistance is 24/7: WhatsApp and the phone line +52 55 3473 0006 are answered around the clock, seven days a week, and the booking system takes reservations at any hour. Flying, however, only happens at sunrise: pickup in Mexico City at 4:30 a.m., check-in at the We Fly Teotihuacan reception at 5:30 a.m., lift-off at about 6:00 a.m. and landing around 7:30 a.m. There are no night flights and no afternoon flights.

Can I cancel or move the gifted date after I pay?

A weather reschedule is free and unlimited. If you cancel yourself, the amount stays as credit in the buyer's name for 12 months from the day of purchase and can be used on any available sunrise and on any of the seven packages; it is not refunded to the card. If we cancel for a reason that is not the weather, you get 100% of your money back. The full terms are set out in the cancellation and reschedule policy.
